Bashir: (reaches for her foot)

Holmes: Good question. The Commander keeps his cards tight to his chest. I was on a repair crew today. Good God, the Chief had us running diagnostics in upper pylon 3. I was bored stupid.

Kira: My day? Well, let's see...Kai Winn showed up to speak to Commander Sisko. Then she was trying to convince me that she really is leading the Bajoran people in the way the Prophets wish. (Shakes head) Hateful woman, Eminence or no.

The fool. Even I know better than that! XD There are better, more tactful ways of ending a line of questioning.

Amy: (gives him the death glare) You move that hand one more nanometer toward my foot, and you may just lose it.

Dax: Now that's a dull day, if I've ever heard one.

Odo: (stiffly) That woman... (shifts in his seat) She ruffles my feathers the wrong way.

And it doesn't help that I'm feeling extra hormonal tonight, so I'm EXTRA pissed. -_- And it isn't just that. It was the entire conversation (that was going fine) leading up to that. Just ugh. I'm very angry. He might be getting the phone version of the cold shoulder from me tomorrow... and tuesday. And maybe wednesday too if he doesn't at least try to make it up to me. I know that sounds vindictive, but... xD

Bashir: Oh, we don't like our feet touched, do we? (playful tone; hand backs off)

Holmes: You're not kidding. And best of all, the universal translator was jammed due to some interference, so you had a human, a Bolian, and a Vulcan all trying to communicate, with very little success.

Kira: You're telling me! I'm trying hard to trust the Prophets, but this is one hell of a test they're putting us through. (looks slightly miserable)

(Holmes nudged Odo, then puts an arm around Dax, nodding his head toward Kira)

I can see where you're coming from. I don't blame you. A buddy of mine has gone ignored for...ah, it's been two weeks already? time flies when you're exacting sweet revenge :D

Amy: Unless we are getting a firm foot massage, or the other party has a death wish... (only semi-playful tone)

Dax: That sounds like the intro to a joke. "A human, a Bolian, and a Vulcan,..." (teasing tone) You could go on the road with that, Daniel.

Odo: (looks frightened for a moment, then gently puts his arm around her, patting her shoulder sympathetically) It must be hard. I'm sure everything will work out for the best, somehow.

Lol it isn't quite so easy for me. He's one of the people I talk to on an hour to hour basis. ALthough, if I don't start the conversation, there really isn't much of one. Another thing I don't like about him. I want the person I'm talking to to be as interested in me as I am in them (even if it's just a friend). Is that really too much to ask? I mean, sure, he's busy, and sure, he has a job, but he could spare fifteen seconds to send me a text every now and then, you know? And he picks and chooses which 'conversation prompt' to respond to. I'll send him one thing, then something else will strike me an hour later, and I'll send that one too. He'll respond to the second one but not the first. That actually happens in the middle of conversations with him. It's like, uh do you pick and choose what to respond to in a face-to-face conversation? Only if you're an @$$. That isn't how it's supposed to work.

Bashir: We are going to avoid the feet, then, since this position makes a good massage difficult.

Holmes: Hey, you're right. Let's see...a Bolian, a Vulcan, and Human walk into a bar...

Kira: (Leans on Odo's shoulder) Thanks, Odo. You always make me feel better.

That's really not corteous on his end. I have a friend that does that, too. I usually have to insult him to get him to pay attention. Clown.

Amy: It really does. (bites his ear)

Dax: (laughs) I think you're forgetting the important part of the joke, Daniel.

Odo: (looks lost) I... I do what I can.

I kinda got used to it, but our most recent conversation brought up my old irritation of it. And he's trying to get into my pants, too. He isn't doing a very good job of it. xD

So yeah. He's going to be hearing decidedly less of me over the next few days. Although he probably won't even notice, because he's studying for finals. Well, that didn't really stop him replying before... Ugh. Idk. I'm just very pissed off. xD

Bashir: That, and I have no wish to die. Although right now, I could die happy!

Holmes: Oh? What part is that?

Kira: (Notices his discomfort, but chalks it up to his usual standoffish routinue) Did you bust anyone good today? If not, feel free to get Quark after we get our food.

You could gently remind him the only pants he'll be sliding off are his if he doesn't shape up, I suppose. That might get his attention. If he doesn't notice, then I would keep the cold shoulder going, because even the most dense human being will eventually figure out they're being snubbed.

Amy: Wait to say that until it's over. I'd be pretty ticked if either of us died now.

Dax: The rest of the joke, dear.

Odo: This idiot trying to steal some clothes from the tailor's next door. He didn't notice me watching him until the cuffs were on.

Lol he just texted me 'you stopped talking fast'. I wanted to reply, 'well that's the general rule for sleeping,' but it would have given me away.

Bashir:It would be pretty discourteous of me to die now, I suppose. (runs a hand down her chest) And it would be a damned shame, too

Holmes: I'm working on it. Comedy takes time- much like romance. (Suggestive hint)

Kira: These idiots never learn, do they? (Shakes head)

lol. Good idea, but you get bonus points for keeping your cool and not saying it XD

Amy: (shivers, watching his hand) A damn shame, indeed.

Dax: (elbows him playfully) The best of times, though.

Odo: if they did, I'd be out of a job.

Took him less time to notice than I expected. I don't think he even knows he did something wrong.

Bashir: (tickles her under the chin)

Holmes: Oh,indeed. Once you 'pushed me into the deep end' so to speak. (shared smile moment)

Kira: True. It would get way too lonely around here without you, you know?

Probably not. The one who makes the mistake is usually the last to catch on.

Well, I've got to be going. The one-two punch of the day of work from hell and the day of homework from hell is about to put me down. Have a good night. Hope things get better for you!

Amy: (gives him a wtf look)

Dax: (laughs) Well, if I hadn't, I doubt you would have even gotten your feet wet.

Odo: Really? I didn't think of it that way.

Well, I can't really stay mad at him. -_-' especially when he's too dense to know when he's erred.

Bashir: (presses a pressure point under her chin) That's why. That should make this feel even better...

Holmes: True enough. I guess I needed 'permission' or something to go past...uh, well, you can't even call my previous position 'first base', can you? You basically forced me to steal home (laughs)

Kira: You're about the only part of this station that I think of fondly, even back when it was under Cardassian control.

My friend is the same way. Except I'm ticked enough to not say anything to him for a month. This might sound slightly...girlfriend-ish of me, I suppose, but I HATE being someone's 'backup plan'.

Amy: Mmmm.... I see.

Dax: that would probably be 'in the stands.' (Laughs)

Odo: I... I'm flattered, Major - er, Kira. I've often felt the same- about you, not me.

Ooh, I can totally relate, girl. Lol

Bashir: Any objection?

Holmes: That's about right (laughs). I see that Commander Sisko has been talking baseball with you, too.

Kira: (puts a hand on his arm) Thank you, Odo. That means a lot.

lol. It was one of those repeating problems. I ain't nobod's backup girl! lmao!

Amy: (struggles to form a sentence) Ah, no....

Dax: I don't quite understand it yet, but it's fun to watch.

Odo: (gives a 'what do I do' look to Dan) Well, you're much mote pleasant to be around than those Cardassian thugs.

XD it sucks. So how's your night?

Bashir: (Just smiles)

Holmes: It is. Remind me to show you a hockey game one of these days. It's another extinct earth game that you might enjoy. The players behave...well, like drunk Klingons.
(Gives Odo a small smile and nod to let him know he's doing good)

Kira: That's good to know, Odo. (chuckles)

Dax: (giggles) That also sounds interesting to watch.

Odo: (chuckles a bit, himself) I'm certainly glad those days are over.

A TNG marathon for me. I got through 5 episodes today.

Bashir: (Flicks his tongue over her lips)

Holmes: Try refereeing it. (sounds disgusted, but smirks) Like trying to control drunk Klingons.

Kira: I hate to admit it, but I'm glad the Federation is here. They really have helped rebuild Bajor.

Nice! Once I'm done with my work, I'm set to watch Star Treks I-IV.

Amy: Mmm...(gently bites his tongue)


Dax: (laughs again) you sound like you've had practice at that.

Odo: Not to mention that once you get to know him, the Commander is a nice man.

Bashir: (Squeezes closer to her)

Holmes: Oh, I have. Do you have any favorite Holo programs?

Kira: He is. And he's a lot tougher than I expected. He stands up to the Cardassians just as well as a Bajoran.

Amy: (shifts her position against the wall, and against him)

Dax: I particularly like that little cabana of yours. (Naughty grin)

Odo: Even Quark likes him, though he won't admit it.

Crap. I accidentally hit delete instead of reply.-_-' I'm sorry.

Amy: (echoes his earlier moan) Very good. Mhm, yep. Very nice.

Dax: Everything will be fine, Kira. He's crazy about you.

Odo: (runs his hand over his face in anxiety) I hope you're right.

Bashir: (Reaches over and pushes the same spot on her) That's the ki point. Three inches below the navel. It forces you to bend forward. And that adds some (deep exhale) extra spice.

Kira: I hope you're right. (tugs her clothes into place) well then, let's go.

Holmes: (Sitting in Quark's on the top level) Take it easy, Odo. I know you don't need to technically, but take a few deep breaths. And remember- she already likes you. This is just making it formal.

Amy: (sharp inhale) Spice, indeed.

Dax: (links arms with Kira and walks with her to Quark's)

Odo: It's a good thing I don't actually have a heart- I'd be in cardiac arrest by now if I did.

Sounds like what was happening to me a couple nights ago, except it ignored 'reply' and just made a new post.

Bashir: (momentarily speechless from the sensation)

Kira: Okay, I'm with you. Just make sure you're a good example to me!

Holmes: Show time, Odo. Stand up. Remember, just like we practiced. (meaningful look at Odo. Goes over to Dax)
Jadzia! (sizes her up) My God, you look beautiful! (hugs her)

That's weird. I wonder what causes those little glitches.

Amy: Got any other... ( ragged breath) ... little tricklets like that?

Dax: (kisses him on the cheek) You're looking pretty good yourself, Daniel. (fixes his collar while keeping an eye on Kira)

Odo: (clears his throat and walks over to Kira) You look lovely, ...( very slight hesitation) Kira.

I'm not sure :\ They pop up once in a while and irritate me, but at least they're aren't horribly major^^

Bashir: (Smiles, reaches across and gently presses a pressure point in the center of her upper chest, which should cause her upper body to bend back, while her lower body stays still) How about that?

Holmes: Thank you. Here, let me...(pulls her chair out, giving Odo a meaningful glance)

Kira: (a little surprised) Well, thank you, Odo! And look at you! All dressed up for the occasion! I'm impressed!

Amy: (gasps, then replies breathlessly) I'm quite impressed.

Dax: Thank you, Daniel. (leans in as Dan sits down) Seems to be going well. Nice work on the clothes.

Odo: Thank you, Ma- Kira. (pulls out the chair for her, then sits down once she's seated)

See you sometime tomorrow!

Bashir: There's more. (Tilts her neck back, forcing her back to arch, adding to the feeling).

Holmes: Thank you. Nice work with Kira! This is going well so far.

Kira: Oh, thank you, Odo. Hey, you look great!

Quark: Well, well, Odo! Since you haven't accused me of any wrongdoing, you must be here with the Major. What can I get you lovebirds? (looks far too interested)

(Holmes shoots Odo a warning glance)

Sorry I wasn't around tonight. Work ran incredibly, stupidly late -_-' Again. Thankfully, tomorrow is my last day, and then I'm done until August. Thank God!

Amy: (momentarily speechless)

Dax: Here comes trouble.

Odo: I don't think everyone has decided what they want yet, but thank you, Quark.

Hey, it happens. I was actually in bed when you sent that xD

Bashir: (Speechless himself)

Kira: (Keeping calm under great pressure. She starts whispering Bajoran prayers to keep calm)

Holmes: (Silently congratulates Odo)

Quark: (Leans over the table) You know, this is quite the curious pairing here. But hey, love comes in all shapes and sizes. Though I DO wonder why you males let your females wear clothes. Are you going to -(snickers) chew your own food, too? (looks to Odo) Those of you that eat, of course. Ah well, I suppose not every culture has as strong a male population as the Ferengi

Dax: (pats Kira's hand under the table soothingly)

Odo: (dangerous 'Constable' tone) Quark... You're trying my patience. (gives Dan a look, then leans over to Quark, away from Kira and speaks in a hushed tone) There might be some extra latinum in it for you if you give us some extra space tonight, Quark.

Kira: (Whispers to Dax) Now I remember why I decided to give Odo a shot. We have something in common- hating that pointy-toothed profit demon.

Quark: Well, you know me, Odo. Latinum is always to my taste! But you know, it really is distasteful to accuse an innocent Ferengi businessman of any wrong doing...

Holmes: I've got it, Constable. (slips a few strips of latinum to Quark) Jadzia will just win that back anyway, either at Tango or Jomdot.

Amy: (gasps) Julian, you've got quite the hot-hands!

Dax: I am pretty good at the Jomdot table. (laugh)

No worries; it happens. I was wondering if I could trouble you for some feedback about that last updated I did for 'mercenaries'. Now I'm sitting here going 'dkhjdfk! He cracked too quickly! There was no build-up!' Which was part of the point. It was supposed to seem absolutely devastating to both Yuji and Azami, so that I couldn't have either one lose or win the little game they've been playing. Did it work that way?

Amy: (runs her fingers down his back firmly) These hands?

Dax: (smiles privately at Daniel)

Odo: (to Dan) Well, technically, I don't sleep... Oh, I see. Humanoid humor. (To Kira) I think I shall, but I don't do it all that often. I'm afraid I'm going to need some pointers. (Gives Dan a 'am I doing this right' look)

It was a bit sudden, yes. It jumped from 'I still have enough fight' at the store, to 'kill me and end it.' If you insert a liiitle bit more building up in between those, it would be absolutely perfect.

Bashir: Those very hands (holds one of them)

Kira: Well, you could always try what I'm having: Hasperat. It's really good, and a bit spicy.

Holmes: (nods to Odo with a small grin) I think I'll go Vulcan tonight. Theris-masu and Kreila. How about you, Jadzia?

The second I posted it, I was beating myself up. It's too late to take it back now, so oh well. I was so intent on his breakdown I left out the important part.

Amy: (gently bites his index finger)

Dax: You know, I think I'll have that, too, Daniel. That sounds pretty good.

Odo: Well, alright, I'll try that.

Bashir: (Playfully tugs the finger into her cheek, pulling gently)

Holmes: I think I'll try one of those 'black holes' that you introduced me to. Synthehol or not, it's darned tasty!

Maybe I'll go back and revise the whole thing one of these days. I should have pleny of time to work on it, since Andr28a won't be updating his end of the Co-op fic anytime soon. Writer's block sucks.

Amy: (giggles, then cups that finger with her tongue)

Dax: (teasingly) Only if you share.

Odo: (draws a blank on things to say, tosses a 'help me' glance to Dan)

Also, question. When a guy says 'you ask too many questions,' does it mean that he's embarrassed about the answer, or that I'm actually bothering him?

(pulls out an electric blue, lower-mid-thigh length sleeveless dress with a moderate, but flattering neckline) How about this? Not too dressy, but certainly several steps up from pants and a blouse.

Odo: Well, I pull her seat back for her, of course.

You know, Rom was in an episode of TNG, as a different ferengi. It was the episode where Picard met Vasch(sp), and he was her partner who wanted the disk. I'm preeeetty sure that was him.

Odo: Threaten to turn him in for the duridium shipment he got a cut of last week?

No, in this case, we politely tell him we'll increase his tip if he goes away. If that doesn't work, then I keep Jadzia occupied while you put him in the brig.

I don't know. I think Riker got more tail. Not sure how until season 3, when he stopped being so uptight.

Amy: I'm deceptively sturdy.

Odo: I see, I see. (making mental notes)

Well, Riker... he's a player. Picard landed some pretty ladies, though. Most of them quite a bit younger than him.

Bashir: Thank God for that!

Kira: (Grudgingly) Okay, okay. But still...he doesn't have a heart. I can't imagine that he's really attracted to me...

Holmes: Yes, we should refrain from violence. Okay, so Kira is having a good time. She starts to get a little upset because she's talking about her time in the Resistance. What do you do?

No doubt. My idiot group would probably hit on them -_-'

I admit, I would root for Picard every time, too. And Geordi, for that matter. Poor Geordi.

Amy: do you always talk this much when you're 'with' a woman?

Dax: just because he doesn't have a corporeal heart doesn't mean he doesn't have the figurative one. Trust me, Kira. You should see the way he looks at you.

Odo: I... change the subject?

Bashir: Sure. It assures me that they're still conscious. If they don't respond, then I've bored them to death.

Kira: (has followed Dax's instructions) I'll trust you on this. (Thinks) Hmm...Dax, tell me something...how did you and Holmes...you know...hook up. I mean, if it comes to that, how do I...approach it?

Holmes: Yep. But make sure you say something to the effect of "It must have been difficult for you, Kira. But it made you into such a strong person..." See, the compliment will make her smile, and then she'll likely change the subject herself, to try to stay happy.

True, and it was with Tasha, who is certainly hot in her own right.

Amy: wow, so you can bore people to death in the bedroom? I'm certainly not bored.
Dax: (surprised cough) Well, we have Amy and Julian to partly thank for that. But really, I dragged him to my room and after he got over his shyness, the clothes came off pretty quickly.

Odo: I see. (Mental notes again)

XD she was, wasn't she?

Bashir: (Smiles) Well, I've only done this before once or twice...(chuckles)

Kira: I'm not shocked you took charge. Do you think..that's what Odo will need? Me to just...take charge?

Holmes: Okay, good. Now, the date is over. Jadzia and I are gone; you and Kira are alone. She doesn't seem to want to say good night and leave. SO what do you do next?

She's underrated imho. I actually think she was a better tactical officer than Worf. Worf was a great character, don't get me wrong. But Tasha was just awesome. I think you could do more with a female security chief storyline wise. Worf would have made sense anywhere.

Amy: Is that so? (Interested)

Dax: well, possibly, but Odo isn't quite like Daniel. He may need a bit of prompting, though.

Odo: Hrm....

Yes, I loved tasha!

Bashir: Despite my rep as a romeo, I don't generally hop into bed with the first available girl. They have to be special (Switches position). And you, Amy Collins, are special.

Kira: Alright, I can do this. I can do this. I'm going to follow your lead the whole time, Dax, so I'm counting on you.

Holmes: You've known her for years, so I would seriously consider sealing the deal at least with a kiss. But if she's looking to go farther, it would both do you some good. It did wonders for me. My work efficiency has been up 25% since Dax and I got serious. (A slight lie, but it's for the greater good)

SHe was so funny. She reminds me of Major Kira a bit. Both grew up fighting, both are violent (lol), and they even look a like to some degree with a compact build and short hair. And they both love the odd ball. The android or the shapeshifter.

That whole thing made me lol in class. XD

Amy: I don't... really make a habit of this either. So that really means a lot, Julian. (passionately kisses him)

Dax: what about when we all head home? You gonna go in for the kiss?

Odo: Further? On the first date? Does the Major... I mean, Kira move that quickly?

Bashir: I never once thought you were that type of girl. You've got a wholesomeness about you, even now.

Kira: It had crossed my mind...maybe more, if Odo is up for it...(looks to Dax for approval)

Holmes: well, keep in mind that I worshipped Dax from afar for a while, and she saw I needed a little help getting to the next stage. You and I may be the same there. If you feel it, go for it. If she does, she'll say so. Either way, you two know each other so well there's no way you'll miscommunicate on that.

Amy: Well, you did once, but that was a simple misunderstanding. Well, a complicated one, but one easily rectified.

Dax: Well, you've known each other for a while. If he doesn't seem opposed to it, I say lead him in gently, but swiftly. That's what I had to do for Daniel.

Odo: I... see. What if she decides she isn't interested in me, after all? I don't think I could bear the humiliation.

Kira: Right. So coax him, then make a big move. Maybe it would help if you told me details about how you got Ensign Holmes to do...that.

Holmes: Major Kira is a lot of things, but 'mean' is not one of them. If she doesn't think it'll work, she'll be quick and quiet about it, and not a thing will have changed between you two. She's a good person, and so are you, so there shouldn't be any vindictive mishaps.

Hey, it happens. xD I love how talkative they both are when they're QUITE busy.

Amy: Mmm... I think you'll find that once you get down to it, I'm pretty easy to please. Whatever works for you works for me.

Dax: Well, to be perfectly honest, I dragged him back to my quarters. I sat on the bed, and he started some playful banter. I made him come over and sit by me, and when he hugged me I took his jacket off. The rest just sort of fell into place after that. But just... do what feels right for the two of you. What worked for Daniel and me may not 'fit' for the two of you.

Odo: Yes, yes, you're right. (paces around restlessly) Is it natural to feel such... anxiety?

lol, really. It's funny, but I'd imagine it comes from them being medical personell and talking in the middle of high stress situations. Or something. XD

Bashir: Really now? No requests at all?

Kira: They really are alike, though. But you're right. We'll have to wing it. Odo seems to like me when I'm just 'Major Kira'. So maybe that's the role to play...
Dax, what are you wearing tonight?

Holmes: More than natural. It's healthy. And it certainly means you really like her.
Okay, so now we come to this: What to wear tonight? God knows they're going to be decked out, and we've got to look like we belong with them. I plan on keeping it simple: dark dress pants, white collared shirt. What are you thinking about

Amy: Well... (whispers a vivid description, then flashes him a crooked smile) Think you can manage that?

Dax: Well, I was thinking about this little black number I'd been saving.

Odo: You mean, this... (looks down at his uniform)...wouldn't be acceptable?

If you can talk while performing surgery, then I'd imagine you can talk while doing...that. XD

Bashir: (Obeys her orders to the letter) now THAT is a complex little number! I like it!

Kira: Mmm...okay. Knowing Odo, he'll show up in uniform.

Holmes: You know, that's what I thought, too. In a guy's case, it's not what you wear so much as you took the time wear something different. It makes your date feel special. Now, I've got to pick up my clothes from Garak's. I'd imagine you'll do your shapeshift thing?
(Taps at Odo's computer)

Odo: (shifts into what Daniel showed him, then sits on his office chair and fidgets nervously, drumming his fingers on the desk)

Bashir: From Chief O'Brien. The poor man never leaves without owing me latinum these days. (smirks)

Kira: (stops dead, her earring jingling) And...what? And what?!

Holmes: Yeah, you know, I said the same thing. But really...Odo, you're an observer of humanoid nature. You know perfectly well that males and females pair off. And frankly, you aren't any more immmune to that than I am.

Amy: Poor O'Brien. (shrugs, then starts taking off her uniform) You know, back at the Academy, I used to have quite the poker face myself. I would have given Quark a run for his money. I must be losing my touch.

Dax: Well... Honestly, Kira, I don't know how you've gone this long without noticing.

Odo: (leans back against his desk) What are you trying to say?

Amy: Poor O'Brien. (shrugs, then starts taking off her uniform) You know, back at the Academy, I used to have quite the poker face myself. I would have given Quark a run for his money. I must be losing my touch.

Kira: WHat are you talking about, Dax?!

Holmes: Oh, come on. You know where I'm going. You like Kira. You'll feel better if you admit it!

Amy: (leans down, half undressed, and kisses him) Well, I'll get right on that.

Dax: I'm talking about Odo, Kira. He's been in love with you for years.

Odo: (looks shocked, then shifts uncomfortably) What gave you that idea?

Oh, absolutely it was ^^

Bashir: Well, nothing that can't wait until three or four...or five hour from now.

Kira: Odo? In love with me? Are you out of all eight of your minds, Dax?!

Holmes: It's obvious to everyone but you and Kira. You aren't normally so transparent; this time, though... You know, you should give her a shot. Seriously. I think she'd be quick to take you up on it.

Amy: (giggles, stripping off the last of her uniform) Five hours, hmm? Like to take your time, do you?

Dax: Well, that isn't outside the realm of possibility, but that has nothing to do with the facts. Really, it's obvious to everyone but you. I'm not even sure Odo is aware of it, himself.

Odo: Why would you think that? the Major could have her pick of men on this station. Why should she choose a shapeshifter?

Bashir: Oh, I just think that it'll be a while before we're both satisfied.

Kira: Odo? And me? Oh, come on, I wouldn't know how to go about finding out if what you said was true or not!

Holmes: Let me ask you something: Whenever she has a spare minute, a problem, or is feeling lonely herself, who does she go to first? You, Odo. Tell you what- if you go out with her, I'll come with you. I've got a date of my own- we'll help you break the ice.

Here's the little episode bit I promised:

Dax liked the gamma shift. It was so calm and peaceful compared to the hectic day shift hours. The pleasant, quiet hums of machinery and computers working had the effect of a technological waterfall sound. It was sort of like a Zen thing in the steel confines of the space station.

With the lights dimmed in time with the earth clock that they had all grown accustomed to, the subtle blues, reds, and greens coming from the various consoles matched the overall relaxed feeling of the station.

OPS was quiet this time of night, empty of Bajoran and Starfleet personnel alike, save for a skeleton maintenance crew that Chief O’Brien on duty around the clock for the eventual breakdown of some piece of equipment. This Cardassian - built space station wasn’t in the best of shape, thanks to its former occupants trashing its before they left.

Dax had just started to close her eyes and exhale when the sound of the turbolift reached her ears. She turned from her station to see who was coming at such a late hour. She was surprised to see Ensign Holmes stepping off the turbolift.

“Good evening, Daniel,” Dax commented amiably, offering a smile of greeting. “What brings you here? Aren’t you off duty?”

For a moment, Holmes considered telling her the real reason he’d come. For some reason, even though he was new here, he felt like he could trust these people. Here he was thinking of telling Dax, whom he’d only known for short while, one of his greatest secrets. He was tempted, yes, but he wasn’t quite ready to tell her just what was going on.
“I guess I’ve got a bit of insomnia, so I thought I’d catch up on some work. If you’re really relishing your quiet time, I can take it with me back to my quarters. Although Bashir would have a fit.”

Dax cocked her head, a question in her tone of voice. “Julian? Why would he mind?”

Holmes tried to make sure that he was sounding believable. He wasn’t entirely lying, he convinced himself as he said:
“If you have insomnia, you aren’t supposed to stay where your bed is. It’s some psychological thing,” he told her, waving a hand in the air to convey he didn’t understand the subtleties.

“Oh, that’s right. It’s a way to train your mind that when you see your bed, it’s time to go to sleep. That way you don’t associate any other thoughts with your bed.”

“Yeah, that was it. Let me guess -” Holmes grinned, deciding to try his hand at playful joking,“ Curzon was a sleepwalker?”

Jadzia gave him a friendly smile, enjoying the banter. “No, actually it was Tobin. He knew his way around an engine room, but when it came to girls… God, he used to get so nervous that when one paid attention to him he couldn’t sleep or even eat if he had any feeling toward her at all.”

Holmes actually stopped dead. That sounded so much like himself. He would be a fool to let this opportunity go by without taking advantage of it. How often could you ask a girl what she liked without really asking her?

“Oh, really? And what do you, as Jadzia, think of that? I mean, is it different for you? Well, obviously it’s different, since you’re a female, but -”

Dax felt herself smiling again. It was good to reminisce sometimes. But even more than that, she had a feeling that this question was really important to Holmes.
“Well, I suppose that Jadzia would have empathy for somebody like Tobin.”

Dax had the distinct feeling that Holmes was very much like Tobin. A little more refined and with a different brand of intelligence, but the anxiety… That was the same. She wouldn’t have picked it out if she had lived through it herself in a manner of speaking.
I can’t help him unless he asks. Or maybe that’s why he’s here. I’ve never been a doctor, but I can see that he’s got something going on with him right now. Maybe he just needs company? I’ll have to ask Julian tomorrow.
Dax wouldn’t have objected to the company of the young ensign anyway. He was a genuinely good hearted man in as he had said himself he wasn’t in it for the awards or the fame.
“How about a drink?” Jadzia asked.

Dan felt some self blushing in spite of himself. He wondered if her question was one of those situations where he was supposed to read between the lines. How the hell was he supposed to know? He and Tobin, apparently were two peas in a pod in that what they knew about women could be described on the head of a self-sealing stem bolt.
Then again, what did he care how she meant that? Whether she was being friendly or hinting it something else, Dan knew he would enjoy her company. So why split hairs and risk alienating her?
He was closer to the replicator, so he walked the short distance over, then glanced back toward Dax.

“What would you like?”

“Well, I’m on duty, so…raktajino.”

Holmes nodded approvingly. Being the straight arrow he was, he would have lowered his opinion of Dax if she had wanted synthehol. So he ordered a raktajino for her, and one for himself, too, since he’d been pledging to try that drink (since just now finding out that she liked it).

“Here you go.”
Holmes set her drink down on one of the workstations nearby. He chose a chair that was close enough for conversation, but far enough away to give her privacy, if she so desired. If not, well, he could move closer. She hadn’t seemed to be doing anything in particular when he’d come in, except relaxing. That very fact made him feel guilty for lying.

Amy: Quite right, too. I have quite the stamina; are you sure you can keep up?

Dax: Just watch the way he interacts with you more carefully. All the signs are there. Why don't you ask him out for a drink? I'm absolutely positive he'd be more than willing.

Odo: (mulls this over) I... I don't know. I wouldn't even know how to approach her.

ACK I LOVE IT! This is so wonderfully set up. It also makes me feel bad for taking SO LONG on my pilot. xD I'm sorryyyy! ;_;

Bashir: we'll just see. I keep with a good diet and exercise regimen so I think (slips off his swimsuit) I'll be fine.

Kira: Oh, well...if you come with me, I will!

Holmes: Relax, Odo. Let me and my date help you out. In earth tradition, that would make me a 'wingman', I guess.

Odo: This is one part of humanoid culture that I don't think I'll ever get accustomed to.

Dax: (taps commbadge) Dax here. Actually, I think I do. (watches Kira leaving) A certain Bejoran Major, perhaps? Is that agreeable to said Shapeshifter?

Odo: (looks embarrassed, then mumbles) That is agreeable.

That sounds like... fun? xD I'm not sure how you/your grandmother/ and your mother get along. I have 180 dollars in allowance that I haven't spent, so I'm going to buy her a necklace or something when I get the chance to go out.

Bashir: (Clearly enjoying himself) Yes, it is!

Holmes: Understood. We'll meet you at Quark's at in...one hour? Is that time enough? Odo and I have little to do get ready, I'm afraid...

Dax: Well, that explains a lot, Kira. When you go on a date, you don't just change your clothes. You do something a little different with your hair, put on a slightly different shade of makeup. It's the little touches that make all the difference.

Odo: (clears throat) Good evening, Major.

xD That's sad, in its own rite. My grandma is the overly friendly type. We'll be in the grocery store, and someone will stop at the same aisle we're stopped at, and she just HAS to strike up a conversation with them. Everywhere we go. -_- But she makes THE best cookies. Not so much on the sweaters. xD

Mine is the confrontational type. If she thinks she's being overcharged (she thinks it's still 2.00 a gallon for gas), she lets everyone know.

My computer teacher. She's a sweet lady, but she's SO DAMN ANNOYING! She has THE. Biggest. Southern. Drawl. I've. Ever. Heard. And I live in TEXAS, okay? There are some big southern drawls down here. But hers is just ridiculous. And her 'main' job is flipping houses. This is her 'side job.' All she does it put our work into our computer folders and let us have at it. She sits there and makes sure we're not talking or using our phones or listening to music. -_- I REALLY hate that class.

Bashir: Oh? Care to tell me? Or show me? or demonstrate with me?

Holmes: Absolutely (big, stupid grin). I love that girl.(Puts on his uniform and heads for security; enters offics and waits for Odo's attention)

Kira: It really has been a while. No one since Bareil...I always wonder why I can't find the right person.

That does sound like one difficult to swallow class. Yuck. I had one Spanish teacher that taught us no Spanish; she told us what boy bands she liked. You can imagine how fascinating I found that -_-'

Odo: Lonely? The Major? Don't be silly. (turns around to check something at the terminal behind him, presenting his back to Daniel)

I can top that, actually. I just did more than twice the work I needed to for a homework assignment. (shakes head) And it was driving me nuts because it made no sense. If you destroy your camera, kindly smash it into my skull, so it might jar some common sense and intelligence loose.

Amy: (looks quite taken aback) I suppose I pushed you to your limit, hmm?

Dax: (between kisses again) But surely... there are times... when you just want... to have your way with me?

Oh, I enjoyed it immensely. And yes, I have quite recently unfortunately. It's not an experience I want to repeat. That program SUCKS. xD I empathize deeply, sir.

Bashir: At this point, anything short of maming little Julian is fine with me.

Holmes: Oh...I have...instincts...but...you know me...I...just can't...bring myself to...act on them...

It's not so bad if you can get into an assignemnt. As for me, I'm just about to ask my professor how bad a hit my grades would take if I just skipped the rest of the miserable section. Oh my God is it the most convuluted, miserable program from hell! There is not one single thing in that stupid thing that you can't do with Excel faster and batter imho.

Amy: I'm going to pretend you didn't just name it...

Dax: If you're worried about... protests from me... you won't find them. In fact... I'd quite... enjoy it. Being in control... all the time... is hard work.

I know! xD I'm so glad our lesson only took 3 class periods. It took me like, 3 extra days to get them done than we were supposed to, but I just couldn't bring myself to do them until last minute. That's what I was working on the other day when I said I was doing homework. It SUCKED.

Bashir: Oh, come on, didn't you name your...you know...those?

Holmes: (Grabs her waist, rolls over so he's on top) Well then...I can't...say no to...you!

Kira: (walks in; stunned) What the hell? Dax and Holmes?! (Within earshot of Dax and Holmes)

I've been working with the damned thing for a month. I HATE IT! The bloody query function is worse than useless! I could ctrl+f and find what I want faster! And equations- calculators! Gah!

On a side note, my professor will be getting a very entertaining email the next time he checks it...

Amy: Well, no, Julian. (snicker) I happen to be a very normal person who doesn't name her appendages.

Dax: (quite calmly, not moving) Hello, Major.

On the side note: Oh?

Bashir: Oh. Well, this is me looking stupid and wishing you to start moving your hand...

Holmes: (Has 'oh crap' all over his face) Er...i'd salute you, but Lt. Dax appears to be on my hands right now.

Kira: I was just about to come rip you off her and throw you out the nearest airlock...but if she's okay with it...

Holmes: (whispers to Dax) I think we just planted the seed to get her with Odo...

Oh yes. Something about 'how bad will my grade be if I simply don't make the deadline because of this program?' I think I said 'convoluted' at least once, and nearly commented on where this program came from, and where it can go. XD THankfully, I know him personally, and he might just laugh about it.

Amy: (obliges) You could never look stupid, Julian. Your only settings are cute, sexy, and scary.

Some are cool, but man, some are just evil. The only trick I picked up is to always talk to the professor before the classes start, and just talk to them as people. If they're jerks, then chances are they're jerks during class, too.

Amy: Poor baby, you probably looked black and blue all over. Also, I'm impressed with your amount of concentration, considering...

Dax: (poker face) No, no, Kira, you've got it all wrong. He pushed me down.

It sounds like common sense, doesn't it? If you get them talking, you find out they're Star Trek fans, or something else you've got in common, and then relate that to the subject. Then they cut you slack, or are at least more open to helping you.

Amy: (squeezes)

I hated him at first, but when I saw him a second time, I found him entertaining. I saw him on Voyager first, and I didn't know his history, so I was like 'who's this whackjob?'

Holmes: Really? I vaguely remember that series, I think. Something about magic and the like?

Hmm. I always found him entertaining. Mostly because he had absolutely no idea how to socialize (I problem I -used to- could relate to) and he was so nerdy. It was just adorable. My friend hates him with a passion.

Amy: You're selling heaven a few leagues short, dear. Now I'm going to need you to lie on your back, or I can't give you a massage...

lol, jealous? Hardly! The kid is good. I'm just not a huge fan of his character early in the series.

I can just imagine Julian's voice getting higher and higher as this progressed.

Amy: (trails her fingers across the small of his back to either hip bone, then tracing the indents of his hips forward until she couldn't easily go farther, then trailed back up and continued massaging his lower back) And that?

Dax: he did. Although I always found him amusing.
